The Greenbelt Foundation’s Approach to Grantmaking
The Greenbelt Foundation supports initiatives that will help ensure Ontario’s Greenbelt remains permanent, protected, and prosperous.
We strive to support projects that strengthen our collective understanding of the Greenbelt’s rich cultural, agricultural, and natural heritage; programs that ensure communities have accessible and healthy greenspace to explore; and initiatives that propose solutions to the challenges our province faces in terms of growth and climate change.
We encourage proposals that develop and/or deepen collaborations between multiple stakeholders. We prioritize projects that integrate a diversity of perspectives and skill sets, as well as those that can demonstrate strong community and/or partner support.
As well, we encourage submissions from underrepresented community groups and Indigenous-led initiatives, and review all proposals in the context of their contributions towards the Foundation’s commitments to Truth and Reconciliation.
The Greenbelt Foundation seeks to build dynamic partnerships with our grantees, and we pride ourselves in being an involved and supportive funder. We appreciate when grantees are proactive in sharing information and resources that can be shared and adapted to other areas of the Greenbelt, success stories that raise the profile of the Greenbelt’s benefits, and opportunities for the Foundation to participate in events and activities.
Our grant program typically runs one to two grant rounds per year. Each call includes detailed guidelines, eligibility criteria, and strategic priorities for that cycle.
