The Value of Rouge Park? Priceless.
New study values Greenbelt’s Rouge Park at more than $115M per year
David Suzuki Foundation recently released a study that estimates the economic benefits provided by farmland and green space within the proposed Rouge National Park and surrounding watersheds.
The study, Natural Capital in Rouge National Park, shows the Rouge region provides more than $115 million each year in essential ecosystem services that directly benefit the people and families of the Greater Toronto Area. These include: watersheds, carbon-rich wetlands and bogs that filter our water, streams, forests, and fertile agricultural soils. The future Rouge National Park, including the existing Rouge Park, is the ecological engine of the region and a part of Ontario’s Greenbelt.
In addition to the study, the David Suzuki Foundation engaged the creative help of students at the Ontario College of Art and Design (OCAD). Together they launched an innovative visual campaign of the Rouge ecosystem services. Click here to see the fresh take from the students at OCAD.
